Watching "The People Speak"

Howard Zinn is amazing and The People Speak on the History Channel is changing me and my wants, hopes and dreams on the spot, right now, as I listen and watch. . . the real stories of the people as they lived their lives and lived through the true successes and failures of this country. . . amazing.

I love to dance.

This is me cheesing to Amy while dancing with Ben. . . we had been to ACL and it rained, and we all got drenched, but didn't care. . . with the music and rain and the dancing.

It felt like we hadn't done this since our wedding. . .
So happy!

it's been awhile. . .

Boy, has it been awhile since I've blogged!  I've missed it. . . I just came off of stint of travel that took me all over the country, allowed me to meet all sorts of people, celebrities, singers, execs, fashion designers etc.  It sounds thrilling. . . at times, I admit, it is. . . but it is grueling, and stressful, and crazy.  And I miss my baby and my husband when I'm gone.  But with my last trip to NYC for an event with Nintendo supporting their new game, and partnering with Charlotte Ronson (very cool), I'm home for a bit!  Yea!  Now I'm able to breath a bit, and realize that, eh-hem, "baby" Doss is about to turn 1!!!!  Dec 14th, that sweet little boy will be 1.  He is so wonderful, so full of life and laughter and curiosity.  I'm so proud of him. . . I just wish I didn't feel like I have missed so much!  Perhaps all parents feel that way, no matter the circumstance. Doss is so close to walking.  He is very fast on the ground, pulling up on anything stationary, loving his bath and water, belly laughing, and is obsessed with buttons!!!

Before it got so crazy and obsessed, one of my goals was to get photos of his really cute room posted.  I'm still working on it.  I'm determined to do that.  But in the meantime, here are some of the latest of the little smooch face.  He is a dear.  He lovesssssss  his Daddy, too, which is so fun to see.  And by the way, Ben was a real trooper during the summer/fall when things were so crazy with my travel.  I can't believe what an amazing father he is and how much support he has offered us.   Very lucky. . .

Goals to stay connected and keep putting this life, love, design, and parenthood adventure out there is going to happen!

John Hughes helped me grow up. . .

I'm a child of the eighties--and with the death of movie maker, John Hughes, I'm thinking about what an impact his films had on my development.  He gave a voice to teens, but not just the "popular  kids". . . to the teens on the edge in detention in Breakfast Club, and to the less fortunate artists in Pretty in Pink, and to the geeks and nerds in Sixteen Candles.  The way he portrayed their lives seemed so real, and not just in a funny over the top way, but real--with feeling.  And also gave the kids on the edge a path that became something to aspire to, or atleast relate to. . . how I wanted to sew pieces of scrappy fabric together to create a fabulous "volcanic ensemble" just like Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink.  I wanted to get driven away to the dance by a hot guy in a sweater and porche like Molly Ringwald in Sixteen Candles.  Oh!  The joy and angst. . . it just made you realize all kids from all walks of life go through the same excruciating excitement of being a teenager.  And that you can accept eachother, on some level in the least, and learn something.

RIP John Hughes.

Life's little bangs!

Doss learned to sit up a few weeks ago. . . with a few mishaps along the way!  Just a few.  He is so good and strong and centered now, but it is pretty funny to see. . . eh-hem, since he didn't get too banged up!  I can't help but think about how it is sort of a microcosm for life.  Oh, the bang-ups he'll likely have to go through. . . and oh, how I hope we can laugh our way through most. . .

Coolness and Community

We visited Clay and Amy recently in Austin, their new home.  What a wonderful life they are carving out in that groovy place.  Seems like it is what we are searching for. . . diversity, community, easy flow between people, places.  Very cool.

on a walk to Sunday brunch. . . that's right.  we WALKED to brunch.  Didn't get in our cars.  Amazing.  YOu can see Aunt Amy and Uncle Clay up ahead, pushing miss Lo.  There is Ben, and Doss enjoying the ride.  So fun.
on our way home from Hotel San Jose, and Gueros. . . stopped at a taco stand.  So good and so fun.
the newly minted Austinites!  I love this true look at a family.
what good sports; staying on the street with the babies while Ame and I ran into a shop to scope for just a bit.  Good guys!
